Meet the team:
Derek Cummings
The key to Giles Engineering's success is the knowledge we hold, which in turn helps us deliver an exceptional customer experience. Our Managing Director Derek Cummings has over thirty years experience in the Industry.
Derek was born in Scotland and raised in Canada, returning to his birth land to start his career as a hire controller in 1985 for his brother's plant hire company. In 1987 he became Glasgow depot manager. The Company was sold to Hire Corp Plc and subsequently bought back a few years later. He then became Technical Director at the age of 22.
In 1995 Derek became Speedy Hire Centres first depot manager in Scotland. In 1996 he set up his own business repairing power tools and he began to specialise in diamond drilling equipment in 1997.
Hobbies include walking, golf, F1, good food and socialising.
Customers continue to give him tough and sometimes near impossible challenges but with his knowledge and determination he always finds a solution.
Jack Cummings
At the heart of our business is an outstanding team of experts who make it their business to ensure our customers accomplish their goals.
Our Engineer in Training Jack Cummings has been with the company for three years.
A keen golfer who’s been Junior Club Champion 3 times at Uphall Golf Club, Captain of the junior golf team representing Scotland in Spain and has won the under 18 county championships.
Jack is at the very sharp end of Giles Engineering’s business and is a key part in making us a success.
